Bales Part 1

After attaching the toe-ups we filled the gap between each 4x4 with gravel (for drainage), and insulation.

A series of nails about 3 inches apart were hammered into place to give the bales something to grab onto.

We cleared the platform in preparation for our straw bales.

After several months, we were finally ready for the bales!  We had already contacted a nearby wheat farmer in the summer, so it was just a matter of placing an order.  Once the 65 bales arrived we had to move them one-by-one from the driveway to our building site.  With rain and lack of daylight a huge concern, we had to move quickly.  Each bale weighs easily over 70lbs so the short trek from the front yard felt like an eternity!
